Packaging with Braille

How does a brand make its product’s packaging functional and informative for a blind or visually impaired person while also visually appealing? This is one of the many packaging challenges faced by brands today, particularly since the introduction of new European Legislation on the incorporation of Braille on medicinal packaging which was introduced in 2010.

At Clondalkin Flexible Packaging Bury Shrink Sleeves, we're always looking for ways to innovate through our range of shrink sleeves and better serve the needs of our customers and that's why last year saw the launch of our Braille shrink sleeve. Developed in conjunction with our Group's Pharma  & Healthcare division this innovative sleeve offers a new way for brands to adhere to the Directive.

When the legislation came out 3 years ago many brands chose to simply apply additional clear Braille labels to existing packaging in order to meet the directive’s requirements. It's surprising the number of brands that have continued to do this. The Braille shrink sleeve offers brands the opportunity to improve shelf appeal through utilising a single sleeve and do away with other aspects of packaging to reduce cost.  

The feedback from the pharmaceutical sector has been excellent and our PS9000 accreditation allows customers from that sector to take advantage of shrink sleeves knowing that our processes meet and exceed the needs of their packaging partners.
